  1. Acquainted with the night 12 Apr 10

    I’m loving 2 things a lot today,
the first is my favourite poem by Robert frost,

    ACQUAINTED WITH THE NIGHT

I have been one acquainted with the night.
I have walked out in rain — and back in rain.
I have outwalked the furthest city light.

I have looked down the saddest city lane.
I have passed by the watchman on his beat
And dropped my eyes, unwilling to explain.

I have stood still and stopped the sound of feet
When far away an interrupted cry
Came over houses from another street,

    But not to call me back or say good-bye;
And further still at an unearthly height,
O luminary clock against the sky

Proclaimed the time was neither wrong nor right.
I have been one acquainted with the night.

The second is a song called ‘everywhere i go’ by an american songwriter called Lissie. I heard it first a good while back and it’s stayed with my ever since. I have a feeling her album is going to be great, what she does reminds me of all the amazing music i love from LA in the late 60’s and early 70’s.

Wow.
First I am transported to a quiet night walk in the rain. So beautiful. Love Frost and don’t think I’ve ever read this poem so thank you!
‘...And dropped my eyes, unwilling to explain.’  Oh my heart…

And THEN! This fab lady. What a great voice! Off to check out some more from her, thank you!

What a fantastic poet. Robert Frost, for me, has been one of the best poets to make a mark on my life ever since the Leaving Cert 7 years ago. “...Two Roads Diverged in a Yellow Wood…” - such imagry, such imagination. And the above poem is full of the same. Like the previous poster, the line “...And dropped my eyes, unwilling to explain.” is fantastic stuff! Must give this lady a wee listen…
